Medical filters

Why it’s important to protect your eyes from sunlight with medical filters

At work and during leisure activities, our eyes are constantly exposed to unwanted and potentially harmful luminous stimuli.

We should therefore provide them with the best possible protection from UV light and blue light in order to ensure healthy eyes in the long term.

Effective filtering from sunlight

Medical filters are the best allies for anyone frequently exposed to intense sunlight. Filtering UV light and blue light allows eyes to relax, so that the wearer can enjoy prolonged and comfortable exposure to the sun without inconveniences like having to narrow their eyes, facial tension or headaches.

An additional benefit is improved vision: the filter eliminates harmful and annoying light, while it allows all the harmless light useful to the vision process to pass through. Contrast and perception of depth will improve as well, with a considerable reduction in glare generated by reflective surfaces.

How to avoid damage from overexposure to harmful light

Protecting yourself from UV light overexposure and high frequency blue light is essential in very bright environments: with snow, on the surface of water, at the beach.

Although on overcast days sun rays are filtered by the clouds, there is still a strong exposure to high-energy light, which is harmful to eyes. When the sun is low on the horizon (early in the morning and late in the afternoon), exposure is far higher than we think.

Even in dim light, our eyes are exposed to almost 50% of the sunlight. Forty percent of the UV rays that reach us are reflected by the surrounding environment and therefore they come into contact with our eyes with a lateral incidence, as well as from below, behind, from the face and also from the inside of the lenses on your glasses.

Medical filters need to be treated with a specific anti-glare coating for coloured lenses and fitted on frames providing broad protection from above, below and sides.

Available in the following variants

Neutral medical filters

Neutral medical filters are available in the following range of nanometric cuts: 400, C1, 450, 500, 511, 527, 550 and 585nm, either in a standard or polarised version in two levels, Light 65% or Dark 85%. Supplied as standard in Base 6 in Polycarbonate with internal anti-glare treatment, they can also be supplied in base 8 upon request.

Prescription lenses

Prescription medical lenses, just like standard medical lenses, are available in the following range of nanometric cuts: 400, C1, 450, 500, 511, 527, 550 and 585nm, either in a standard or polarised version in two levels, Light 65% or Dark 85%.
Supplied as standard in CR39, they can be fully customised. We will take into account any need and try to offer the best possible manufacturing solution.

Clip-ons

The medical filter variant on clip-ons is best suited for use outdoors in the polarised version and for normal use in the standard version. If needed, the clip-on can be placed over the corrective eyeglasses in use.

Fitovers

The fitover variant is suitable for maximum protection from direct and indirect light in case of strong photosensitivity. Can be worn over the corrective glasses in use, guaranteed 360-degree protection.
